WAVERLEY Borough Council has granted planning permission for a contemporary subterranean four-bedroom house in Lickfolds Road, Rowledge.
Consent for the single-storey home with a ‘wild flower sedum roof’ was approved by Waverley’s chief planning officer on October 20 after councillors opted against calling it in to committee.
The application has not escaped controversy, however, with objectors highlighting conflicts with a raft of national and local planning policies including the Farnham Neighbourhood Plan.
One of eight people to object to the plans, Mark Westcott, has taken particular umbrage at Farnham Town Council’s support for the application “subject to the new dwelling being in line with the Farnham Design Statement and Neighbourhood Plan”.
Mr Westcott claims the new home should have been dismissed as it falls outside of the plan’s designated Built-up Area Boundary, and has criticised councillors for allowing the application to “fall through the net”.
