PROPOSALS for Grayshott in the draft East Hampshire District Local Plan – currently out to public consultation until March 19 – include a new site for six travelling showpeople on a greenfield site at Middle Common.
The site in Grayshott Road was selected for six plots because “there is a greater opportunity for good design, layout and amenity facilities”.
Guidelines are the design and layout of the site must provide opportunities for healthy lifestyles, ensuring a plot is not entirely hard landscaped and a garden area is provided; that a children’s play area should be provided within view of the residential area and separated from the storage of equipment. It should also be sited within 400m of the Special Protection Area.
The storage of equipment on site should be “appropriately sited, recognising the countryside setting” and the necessary infrastructure, such as power, water supply, foul water drainage and recycling/waste management, should be in place.
It was noted part of the site is susceptible to surface water flooding.
Grayshott is designated a Small Local Service Centre in the local plan and has no proposed additional site allocations for housing in the document. The community was tasked to provide a minimum of 105 new homes and now has planning consents to cover that number, with 12 already completed.
The local plan does not include South Downs National Park. East Hampshire’s housing target between 2017 and 2036 is 10,456 new homes.
The north-east area will see the most significant housing growth, focusing additional housing at Whitehill and Bordon and the allocation of a new settlement at Northbrook Park.
Angela Glass, East Hampshire’s portfolio holder for planning, said: “This is your local plan and your chance to have a say.
“The plan will have a far-reaching influence on the parts of the district it covers for the next 15 years or more.
