GREEN-fingered employees at Squire’s Garden Centres held a 24-hour ‘Plant-athon’ in March raising more than £4,000 for the charity Greenfingers.

Squire’s managing director Dennis Espley planted day and night in order to raise money for Greenfingers, a charity which creates magical gardens for children and their families at hospices around the UK.

Dennis was joined by some special guests, including Andy McIndoe, who is one of the UK’s leading horticulturists with a record 25 gold medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and Andrew Gill, president of the Chartered Institute of Horticulture.

Customers came along to Squire’s to watch the Plant-athon, as did children from Badshot Lea Infant School. The children were able to ask questions, get lots of gardening hints and tips, and even rolled up their sleeves and got involved in the planting too.

Specially planted spring pots from the Plant-athon were sold and 20 per cent from each sale was given to Greenfingers, to raise money for the charity.
