THE fate of an empty plastic bottle is rarely one of continuing life.

If they are comparatively lucky, they may be thrown into a recycling bin, after which they will be broken down and turned into something else.

Others may simply find themselves dumped on a landfill site - but in Bottle Bonanza! at Woodlands Hall in Headley Down on February 22, bottles were used as the basis for fish, rockets, bird feeders, turtles and ladybirds created by children participating in East Hampshire District Council’s Rural Areas Play Project (RAPP), which ran throughout half-term.

Woodlands Hall also hosted stone painting and hiding in Story Stones and Kindness Rocks, while empty plastic bottles featured again in Penguin Pals at Whitehill Village Hall, where children turned them into penguins.

Other RAPP sessions included Mr Giant’s circus skills and balloon modelling show, candle making, a Valentine’s afternoon and building a Lego Antarctic base.
