BRIGHTWELL Tennis Club served up another memorable annual tournament, culminating in finals day last Sunday, when members enjoyed a barbecue, tea and cakes.
Jackie West retained her ladies singles title, defeating Judy Sauter, winning the event for the 13th time since it started in 1991.
James Chamberlin won his first ever men’s singles title, beating Kane Connor in a very close final 4-6, 6-3, 6-2. He became the 16th different winner of the event.
The men’s doubles also produced first-time winners, with Sam Axton and Josh Bence, who have been doubles partners since they were seven years old, producing their best form to beat singles runner up Kane Connor and his partner Gary Saul 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
Jackie continued her winning streak with partner Ben Wiltshire to win the mixed doubles final with a straightforward victory over a tired James Chamberlin and his partner Rose Dixon.
One of the longest matches of the afternoon was the men’s doubles plate final which, following some long rallies, saw Paul Adlam and Richard Apthorp wear down their opponents Nick Fielding and Andy Pritchard to win 4-6, 7-6, 10-2.
