ROYAL Surrey County Hospital has asked people to consider alternatives to A&E to help ease the pressure on its emergency department.
Ben Hill, senior clinical nurse manager for emergency care at the Guildford hospital, said: “We’re seeing an exceptional demand for our services and this means that some people are experiencing long waits.
“There are a number of care options available and we ask that you choose the right one for your needs. Minor ailments, such as the common cold, can be treated at home with over the counter medicines while your GP may be the best person to see when managing a longer term condition.
“Of course, pharmacists are fantastic for help and advice and your local walk-in centre can help with minor injuries too.
“Out of hours, the free 111 telephone service can offer advice; including helping you determine the best place to go to for the treatment you need.”
