THE Wessex Chamber Choir has held its annual ‘Come and Sing’ event at St Lawrence Church in Alton.
Under the expert guidance of musical director Richard Stevens, and accompanied on the organ by Mark Wardell, a combined choir of more than 50 voices spent the day singing the choruses from Handel’s Messiah last Saturday.
And after afternoon rehearsals, an evening performance was given to family and friends, with the recitatives read by actor William Whymper.
This is the third ‘Come and Sing’ event hosted by the Farnham-based Wessex Chamber Choir, whose members live in north Hampshire, Surrey, and Berkshire. The choir performs in a variety of venues across the area, as well as visiting cathedrals around the country several times each year to take part in services in the absence of their resident choir.
The choir’s next concert – entitled Afternoon Delight – will be held on May 7, where the audience can take afternoon tea while being treated to a programme of light music.
