MORE than 300 people attended the Farnham Maltings’ first Retirement Refreshers’ Fair.

There was a lively buzz around the building as visitors enjoyed looking around the range of groups and projects on offer in Farnham and the surrounding areas.

The fair exhibited plenty of ways to stay active and fit from the Farnham & District Ramblers and the Waverley Countryside Volunteers to lots of charitable opportunities with Farnham Lions, Oxfam and the Macular Society. The fair offered something for both new and older retirees.

Each organisation received plenty of interest from visitors and had the opportunity to converse with other societies on how they could work together in future.

Due to the success of the fair and the positive response from stallholders and visitors, Farnham Maltings will be looking to run this event again within the next year.

Peter Seager, chairman of CARE Farnham who were present at the fair, said: “CARE Farnham was very pleased to have taken a stand at the well organised retirement fair.

“We are always in need of new volunteer drivers to meet the increasing demand for our services to take people to doctor, hospital, dentist etc. appointments. Last year we fulfilled approximately 2,850 requests, our volunteers driving an estimated 44,000 miles.

“We ‘recruited’ six new volunteers and I hope that they will very shortly be equipped with their CARE Farnham identity badges and fully briefed.”

The fair was run as part of Farnham Maltings Arts & Elders programme which runs a series of events to promote active and engaged lifestyles for the over 65s.
