THERE is still time to join in a host of summer activities for children of all ages right on on their doorsteps in East Hampshire.
With the innovative Rural Areas Play Project (RAPP) and Get Activ8d play schemes, for four to 14 year olds, there’s bound to be something that sparks young minds.
The Get Activ8d programme includes basketball, tennis, football, golf, climbing and gymnastics at venues around East Hampshire for children aged seven to 14 and session cost £4-£6.
RAPP is aimed at four to 11 year olds with under fours able to attend for free and play with RAPP toys. Sessions start from £4. To see the programme and book sessions, visit easthants.gov.uk/rapp-and-get-activ8d.
There are more summer holiday events at Gilbert White’s House and The Oates Collection, just off the A3 at Selborne. It’s a fantastic place for families to visit whatever the season.
Let your creativity take flight in a drop-in craft activity, Bright Butterfield and Buzzy Bees tomorrow (Tuesday), from 11am-4pm. Entry is free with valid museum ticket.
Pond dipping day is really fun, so grab a a net and an identification sheet and get ready to explore the wildlife in Gilbert White’s Garden Pond Book.
Tomorrow’s session costs £6 per child, with accompanying adults free. All materials included. but booking is required.
Visitors can bring the family pet along to the attraction’s first-ever dog show, with a number of different free to enter classes, next Sunday, August 21.
If you missed it there is a chance to make bird mobiles on Tuesday, August 23 (10am-4pm) – again free with an entrance ticket.
Another highlight is All About Bats on Wednesday, August 24, when during the day there will be bat crafts and bat box making, plus the chance to find out about the bats that live in the area with The Bat Conservation Trust.

Bright Butterflies and Buzzy Bees is being repeated on Tuesday, August 30 (11am-4pm), and on Wednessday August 31. there is a session called Wild Intrigue Workshops, where you can build and decorate your own bird box. It cost £6 per child (five and upwards). All materials included. Woodworking tools will be used.
On Sunday, September 4, families can try their hand at geo-caching and scavenger hunts in the gardens and parkland. GPS devices can be hired. Entry free for museum ticket holders.
