PRIME Minister Theresa May visited one of six cafe-style drop-in services providing mental health support, last week.
The PM pledged to transform services during the visit to the centres, funded by Surrey County Council, clinical commissioning groups and Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, in her recent keynote speech.
Helyn Clack, the county council’s cabinet member for well-being and health, said: “It’s fantastic the Prime Minister came to Aldershot’s Wellbeing Centre and Safe Haven to see for herself the great work we’re doing together to support local people by integrating health and social care services.
“This has never been more vital given the huge pressures we face such as rising demand for care for older people and services for children with special educational needs and disabilities that have left the council looking at how to bridge a £30million funding gap next year.”
A safe-haven centre opened in Woking last year and operates alongside others in Camberley, Epsom, Guildford and Redhill as well as the centre in Aldershot. Details are available on Surrey and Borders’ website.
Other organisations involved in the centres include Surrey Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service.
