ALTON station's new footbridge and lifts were opened by Treloar College students, Hampshire County Council and South West Trains representatives on Monday.

The event was, however, clouded in embarrassment as a points failure at Bentley closed the line between Farnham and Alton, leaving South West Trains personnel to find a taxi to ferry the guests by road to Alton from Farnham, arriving late for their own ceremony.
