OFFICERS from East Hampshire police’s prevention and neighbourhoods team are looking for volunteers to sit on its Independent Advisory Group (IAG).
The group is designed to hold the police to account regarding policies and practices within daily policing and will include checking stop and search forms and videos for accuracy and accountability.
There will also be an opportunity to ‘ride along’ with police to better understand operational policing.
There may also be instances where the IAG members are called to assist with community issues; to give a balanced and objective view of ongoing incidents. The team is interested in hearing from any 16-24 year olds who feel they may have an interest in the emergency services or who want to give something back to their local community.
An IAG member has a small commitment, says the team, meeting about once a month to discuss community matters, audit stop and search forms, and they can help to shape the future of policing in East Hampshire.
A Hampshire Police spokesman said: “There are some forms to be filled in, as some standard vetting has to be undertaken, but help can be given with these.”
Meetings will usually be in the daytime at Petersfield or Alton police stations and help with transport may be available. To apply email [email protected] with the subject ‘For the Attention Of Inspector 93 Rooks - IAG Enquiry.’
