POLICE officers in Bordon were on full alert last Friday in fear of revenge attacks after a major altercation the week before.
Inspector Gerry Thorne authorised a special operation to crack down on youths hanging around in the High Street between 6 pm on Friday and 2 am on Saturday.
It followed a major incident the week before when between 30 and 50 men, aged between 18 and 30, were involved in a fight and two police officers were injured.
Wpc Jill Dennison and Pc Robert Hall were first on the scene at the late-night incident on August 17, in which youths and young men were fighting in the High Street.
The two officers were assaulted, leaving them with bruises and in shock.
Sergeant Howard Lovegrove explained: "Officers got injured and members of the public were injured and the situation was treated quite seriously."
Sgt Lovegrove said officers believed weapons were involved in the incident, which they think may have stemmed from a drunken argument between two men.
"We know that people were injured in this, but amazingly no-one has come to us with an allegation of assault.
"We planned for the next Friday because it was believed that a recurrence was to take place in Bordon's High Street involving a large group of youths.
"Inspector Thorne gave his approval for officers to question young men of a similar description to prevent any revenge attacks.
"A considerable amount of officers were involved in that and fortunately there was no recurrence."
