AN urgent appeal for witnesses is being made by Surrey Police after two of its officers were injured in a serious incident at Wrecclesham.

The officers, Pc Kelly Hudson, 24, and special constable Dawn Surridge, 37, who both live in Farnham, are recovering from the injuries they received when a stolen vehicle was pulled over by two police cars on the A325 at Wrecclesham at 4 pm on Thursday last week (August 7).

During the incident mother-of-three Dawn suffered injuries to her arms and legs while Kelly suffered minor injuries to her hands.

Both officers were taken to Frimley Park Hospital where they underwent check-ups and treatment before being discharged later that evening.

A police spokesman said that Kelly, who is a member of the targeted patrol team for Waverley and Guildford, has already gone back to work.

Dawn is expected to resume her special duties at the weekend, she is also hoping to go back to her full-time job as a teaching assistant at a Farnham secondary school in the new term.

After the incident, which happened outside the Outback pub, a dramatic police chase took officers along the A31, on to the Runfold sliproad, through Badshot Lea and then back on to the A325 and past the scene.

The white van was recovered later that evening in Hayling Island and at 10 pm two men were arrested at an address nearby.

One of the men, 23-year-old Alan Jones of Hayling Island, has been charged with aggressive vehicle taking, actual bodily harm, and criminal damage of a police vehicle.

Jones was also charged with making off without payment from two garages in Hampshire and one in Ripley, Surrey. He was due to appear at South West Surrey Magistrates Court in Guildford yesterday (August 14).

The other man had been arrested on suspicion of helping an offender but was later released on bail.

A police spokesman said: "Anyone who saw the incident, and we believe there was heavy traffic at that time, or any of the route which the van took afterwards is asked to contact us."

Witnesses should call 0845 1252222 and ask to speak to an officer about "Operation Cairo". Any witness who wishes to remain anonymous should contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
