A YOUNG man found lying in the middle of Upper Hale Road with serious injuries on Boxing Day was walking home from the Hale & Heath End Working Men’s Club, detectives have said.

More than half a dozen cars are believed to have driven past the 20 year old before a member of the public came to his aid and alerted the emergency services at around 7.30pm on December 26.

Now detectives investigating how he suffered his multiple head and body injuries are appealing for the motorists who drove past him while he was lying in the road to come forward.

The man remains in St George’s Hospital in Tooting in a serious but stable condition.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Will Marsh said: “We know that the man left the Upper Hale Working Men’s Club at 7.24pm on Boxing Day and walked towards Queens Lane on Upper Hale Road on the section of the road where there is no pavement.

“What happened next is something we are still working to establish, but what we do know is that a number of cars would have driven past him as he was walking on that route, or as he lay in the road.

“We are keeping an open mind as to what happened and therefore cannot rule out that a vehicle was involved.”

Anyone who knows what happened but is unsure about talking to an officer can report any information in complete anonymity to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

DC Marsh added: “If you drove down that road or were a passenger in a car, please get in contact with us as you may have seen, or noticed something that could be vital to the investigation.”
