SURREY Police has confirmed this week that they are not linked in any way with calls from companies purporting to be selling advertising on the force's behalf.

The force has received a number of calls from concerned members of the public over the last few weeks.

One resident who runs his own decorating business flagged up concerns after he was contacted by a representative from a publication called 'Blue Light Magazine'.

The representative claimed to be from Surrey Police and told the resident the magazine would be distributed to all emergency services personnel in Surrey.

Alarm bells rang when the paperwork arrived looking less than professional and the resident then carried out his own research into the company on the internet, which uncovered a number of comments suggesting that the magazine was not a valid publication.
