POLICE are on the lookout for car thieves after an £18,000 Land Rover was stolen in Haslemere and at least two other garages in the area were targeted last week.
The blue Freelander, registration KP51 RSU, was stolen from Kings Road Car Sales, the former Concours Motors in Haslemere High Street, last Wednesday between 2-30 and 5 pm.
Three men went into the showrooms expressing an interest in a car parked outside. While one went to view the car and later left the premises, the other two men are believed to have grabbed the keys from the showroom and made off in the Land Rover sometime afterwards.
Police have issued descriptions of the three men.
The first man is described as 5' 8" with dark hair and of slim build. The other two men are also described as being of slim build and all are white.
On the same day, at the Liphook Renault Garage in The Square, similar tactics are thought to have been employed. When the sales staff locked up at the end of the day they noticed that the keys to a VW Golf were missing and alerted the police.
The Haslemere Rover garage in Grayswood was also thought to have been targeted by the gang.
A spokesman for the Rover garage said that last Wednesday's incident could be linked to another in April when thieves went to the garage and stole the keys to a customer's car.
Anyone with any information on the Haslemere vehicle is asked to phone 0845 125 2222, or for the Liphook incident phone 0845 045 45 45.
