POLICE are hunting two armed robbers who threatened staff with a handgun at Sainsbury’s Local in Headley Road, Grayshott, on Saturday night.

The two men entered the supermarket just after 10.45pm and threatened staff with what appeared to be a black handgun, demanding they hand over cash from the tills.

Three members of staff were working in the store, an 18-year-old man and two 24-year-old women. A 17-year-old male customer was also in the store.

Police say cash was handed over by a staff member but no-one was injured.

One of the robbers was described as having a “croaky voice” with a local accent.

He wore two pairs of gloves, a black leather pair and bright yellow plastic gloves, like washing up gloves, over the top.

The raider was described as white, about 5ft 7ins to 5ft 8ins tall, of small skinny build, with tanned weathered-looking skin.

He was wearing a grey hooded top, faded dark blue jeans, black heavy duty work boots and a scarf over his face.

The second man stood near the door and was wearing similar clothing.

Hampshire Police’s Detective Sergeant Oliver Lage said: “This was a very unusual incident in a rural community. It has obviously left those who were inside the store very shocked but thankfully uninjured.”

Following the robbery the two men left the store on foot, but Det Sgt Lage appealed to anyone who may have seen them get into a waiting car or vehicle parked nearby.

He said: “We know there were some people in the area around the time of the robbery. We are keen to speak to these people to find out where the offenders went following the incident.

“We know they initially left on foot but did they get into a waiting car? Did you see a vehicle which may have been involved parked near the store before or after the incident, or any suspicious activity?

“This is a small community. We are appealing to anyone with any information which could help us identify the offenders to come forward.”
