SOME of the Hampshire Constabulary front office opening times will change "to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the service". Alton will continue to be one of 16 police stations across the force area offering a front office. However those stations offering the service, together with their opening times, may change according to when they are used. Alton police station's public service counter on Drayman's Way will change its weekday opening but will close an hour earlier on Saturdays. Currently open 9.30am to 6pm Tuesday to Saturday but closed 2 to 2.45pm each day, and during Bank Holidays, from Monday the counter will be available half an hour earlier, 9am to 6pm Tuesday to Friday, and 9am to 5pm Saturdays, closing 2 to 3pm daily. The counter will not be available during Bank Holidays. The public can also contact the police by calling 101. For full story, see this week's Alton Herald.
