POLICE are appealing for information following an alleged road-rage incident on the A272 near the West Meon Hut on December 14.

The incident is said to have taken place at around 4.30pm, on the westbound carriageway between Langrish and the West Meon Hut junction with the A32.

The victim, a 46-year-old man, told police that he was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra when he noticed a white Ford Transit van being driven close behind him.

The van then overtook the Vauxhall Astra and slowed so that both vehicles came to a stop. Both drivers got out of their vehicles and the van driver is then said to have assaulted the driver of the Astra. He then got a metal scaffolding pole from his van and used it to smash a window and wing mirror on the Astra car.

The van driver is described as white, around 5ft 8ins tall, and aged in his late 30s to early 40s. He was of stocky build, with a crew-cut hairstyle and wore a hooded top.

Investigating officer PC Lee Gott said: “This took place on a busy road late in the afternoon. We would like anyone who saw what took place to contact us as soon as possible.”
