POLICE have been called in to investigate the theft of three Royal Mail postboxes from Headley over the weekend.

Thieves used metal cutters to steal the small boxes, which are on poles.

The three stolen boxes were located at the junction of Gentles Lane and Fullers Lane; in Headley Park and in Standford.

In Fullers Lane, the thieves stole the box after cutting through the metal pole, and the same thieves are believed to have returned the next day and stolen the pole.

Another postbox, at the Kingsley Centre in Kingsley, was also damaged.

A further postbox, this time in Steep, was stolen at around the same time.

The chairman of Headley Parish Council Anthony Williams said: "These are serious thefts and when will the Post Office replace them? These may be small boxes and may not get a lot of mail in them, but people who have trouble with mobility need to have them close to their homes so they can post their letters."
