ALTON police are investigating two arsons which took place in Pound Gate and Wooteys Way on Monday, January 28. On both occasions, the occupiers returned home to discover that lit tissue had put through the letter box. In Wooteys Way the attack resulted in carpet damage while in nearby Pound Gate damage was restricted by the presence of a cage on the inside of the door, although post was burned. The incidents are believed to be linked and investigations are ongoing to find the person responsible. A police spokesperson said: "Fortunately on both occasions the lit tissue did not cause significant damage, however the situation could have been far more serious with potentially fatal consequences. We would urge anyone who sees people acting suspiciously in the area to contact police immediately." Anyone with any information should call Alton police on 0845 0454545 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
