SURREY Police want to reassure the community that a thorough investigation into the actions of a former Farnham Zizzi employee, who filmed women using the toilet after setting up a secret camera, has been carried out and the victims have been identified.

Leigh Crocker, who has been allowed to walk free from court, was caught emailing stills of the depraved videos to himself from an account at the Zizzi restaurant he ran.

When the 36 year old was arrested police searched his computer and found 19 indecent images of children. He admitted two counts of voyeurism and two counts of making indecent images of children and was handed a three-year community order.

A judge heard how Crocker had set up a camera in the disabled toilet – used by both staff and members of the public – at the restaurant in Castle Street.

A Zizzi spokesperson confirmed that Crocker was suspended the day after the allegation was made on Tuesday, October 18, last year:

“He was investigated by Zizzi and the police and, at that stage, there was not enough evidence to uphold the suspension, so he was re-instated on November 5.

“New evidence came to light on November 8, and this new evidence resulted in Crocker being suspended again on November 15. Following an investigation, his contract was terminated on December 5.

“We were shocked to hear about this incident and would like to reassure customers that this is an isolated case.

“Zizzi fully co-operated with the police throughout the investigation, and a new manager is in place at the Farnham restaurant.”

A customer who often visits Zizzi’s in Castle Street with her young children told The Herald she was “horrified” by the news, commenting “we’ve all used that toilet with our children, to go to the loo and change nappies”.

The mum, who wishes to remain anonymous, described Zizzi’s as “such a family-friendly restaurant”, adding it is extremely popular among NCT and other parenting groups – not least because of its excellent reputation for accommodating allergies.

However, she said she is concerned that her children have been victimised without her knowledge and is now questioning going back to the restaurant.

Tegan Moorhouse was also among those expressing anxiety over the recent goings-ons.

She said: “My husband and I have four children and we visit Zizzi’s in Farnham regularly. I believe not only myself but a lot of parents in Farnham will want to know more.

“Does this man have a history of this sickening behaviour? Do restaurant workers have to go through CRB checks? How was he able to install a camera without other staff seeing his actions?

“And he gets a sentence of carrying out a 100 day sex offenders treatment programme - and only has to sign onto the sex offenders register for five years.

“I want to know that no images of my children were in his hands, it’s the not knowing that is making me feel unsafe in what I believed a safe place to live.”

A spokesman for Surrey Police has confirmed that the victims are all adults and all have been spoken with and given appropriate support, and that there is no evidence that these images were shared more widely.

“When we searched the man’s computer we also found some indecent images of children that we believe he had downloaded from the internet. These are not directly linked to the hidden camera or the restaurant,” continued the spokesman.
