A WOMAN died last week when the car she was driving along the A31 collided with a tree. Jane McNicholls, 37, of Bury Court Cottages, Bentley, was travelling north along the road when she lost control of her blue Peugeot 205 somewhere between the Hen and Chicken and the Bentley by-pass. She veered into the central reservation and then hit a tree. It is thought she may have been overtaking a lorry when the accident happened last Wednesday afternoon at around 4-50 pm. Fire units from Alton and Farnham attended the scene and were joined by a specialist equipment unit. After an hour trapped in the vehicle, Mrs McNicholls was finally freed and taken to Frimley Park Hospital. But despite efforts by paramedics at the scene, her injuries were such that she later died. Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw the car prior to the crash. Anyone with information that could help police with their enquiries is asked to contact Pc Jay Hewes at Whitehill roads policing unit on 0845 045 45 45.
