HAMPSHIRE Constabulary is a force “good” at keeping people safe and reducing crime, according to a report by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary.

The Hampshire police force was one of 24 forces nationwide judged as “good”, while another 18 “required improvement” and only one, Durham Constabulary, was rated as “outstanding”. No forces were rated as “inadequate”.

But the Hampshire force was given a “requires improvement” rating for its protection of vulnerable people - one of the four areas that the overall “good” judgement was based on.

Hampshire Constabulary would have been assessed as ‘good’ in this inspection were it not for a significant weakness in the practice it has recently adopted of routinely assessing the risk to some victims of domestic abuse over the telephone through its new resolution centre,” according to the report, published on February 18 and called PEEL: Police Effectiveness 2015, An Inspection of Hampshire Constabulary.
