ALTON residents have until tomorrow (Friday) to comment on traffic regulation order proposals for the introduction of waiting restrictions in the Alton area.

The public consultation, conducted by the traffic and parking department at East Hampshire District Council, was launched on June 15 for 21 days and will introduce a prohibition of waiting on lengths of Anstey Lane, Chauntsingers Road, Dickers Lane, Eastbrooke Road, Edward Road, Edward Road cul-de-sac, Jenner Way, Lansdowne Road, Lenten Street, Lime Avenue, Normandy Street, Nursery Road, Paper Mill Lane, Park Close Road, Spitalfields Road, St Lawrence Road, Steeple Drive, Victoria Road East, Waterside Court, York Mews, and Youngs Road.

The proposal will also impose a “restriction on waiting between the hours of 1pm and 2pm, Monday to Friday inclusive” on lengths of Dickers Lane, Eastbrooke Road and Park Close Road, a “restriction of waiting between the hours of 8am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive” on lengths of Chauntsingers Road and St Lawrence Road, a “restriction of waiting between the hours of 9am and 6pm, Monday to Saturday inclusive” on lengths of Normandy Street and Lenten Street, a “prohibition of stopping on school entrance markings at any time” on a length of Bolle Road and a “prohibition of stopping on school entrance markings, between the hours of 8am and 9.30am and 2.30pm and 4.00pm Monday to Friday inclusive” on lengths of Eastbrooke Road and Whitedown, Alton.

Key areas to benefit from the introduction of ‘no waiting at any time’ will be stretches of St Lawrence Road, particularly on the bend opposite the entrance to the public car park, and the south side of Victoria Road and Victoria Road East, to improve access for residents and to Alton Infant School.

Also Edward Road, at the cul-de-sac and at the junction with Nursery Road, in Bolle Road, to improve access to Butts School, at Papermill Lane at the junction with Dicker Lane, and many other junctions around alton where inconsiderate parking impedes visibility for both motorists and pedestrians.

A copy of the draft order, plans showing the affected lengths of roads and EHDC’s reasons for proposing the order, may be inspected at Penns Place, Petersfield, at Alton library, or online ateasthants.gov.uk. Comments supporting or objecting to the proposal, together with the grounds on which they are made, must be received by July 6. These can be made online, by email to [email protected] or in writing to East Hampshire District Council at Penns Place, Petersfield GU31 4EX.
