THE deadline for voting in the EU referendum has been extended until midnight tonight (Thursday) following problems with the Government’s website which left some voters unable to register before the original deadline.
Anyone not already on the electoral register must now register by 11.59pm if they want to vote on Britain’s membership of the European Union on June 23.
You do not need to re-register to vote unless your circumstances have changed, for example if you have moved home. The easiest and quickest way to register is online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote.
Anyone unable to vote in person on June 23 can still appoint someone to vote on your behalf, which is also known as appointing a proxy. To vote by proxy you must apply by 5pm on Wednesday, June 15. Download the application forms online at www.waverley.gov.uk/elections.
The deadline to vote by post expired at 5pm on Wednesday, June 8.
