SOUTH West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt is facing a humiliating Commons probe after he admitted breaking money-laundering rules to buy seven luxury flats.

The Commissioner for Public Standards has been called to investigate the Health Secretary over potential violations of the MP’s Code of Conduct.

Mr Hunt initially failed to declare his 50 per cent stake in a property firm he used to buy the apartments in Southampton, falling foul of anti-money laundering legislation introduced by the Tories and punishable by a fine or up to two years in prison.

He also failed to notify Companies House of his interest in Mare Pond Properties when he set it up in September last year with his wife, Lucia.

Mr Hunt apologised for failing to declare a business interest, saying it was an “honest administrative mistake” that was later rectified.

A spokesman for No. 10 said: “Jeremy has rightly apologised for an administrative oversight, and there has been no breach of the Ministerial Code. We consider the matter closed.”
