SOUTH West Surrey MP and foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt joined Farnham man Richard Ratcliffe and campaigners outside 10 Downing Street for the third annual Christmas Carols for Nazanin protest.

The event coincided with Mr Ratcliffe’s wife Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s 990th day of detention in Iran.

Mr Ratcliffe, a former Farnham schoolboy, led the singing, accompanied by the family of Jagtar Singh Johal, who was imprisoned without trial in India for over a year.

Mr Hunt, who has played an active role in calling for Nazanin’s release since becoming foreign secretary in July, attended the carols and paid tribute to the campaign.

Mr Hunt later Tweeted: “As others enjoy Christmas we are also remembering those who cannot. #FreeNazanin”.

Richard said: “We have been here before – last Christmas and the one before, singing in hope Nazanin would be released. Our Christmas wish remains the same. We continue to hope we are near the end.

“Whenever she is home, then our Christmas comes.”
