Politicians across South West Surrey and East Hampshire are having their say after Liz Truss was elected as the new leader of the Conservative Party on Monday.

Ms Truss will become prime minister on Tuesday when she visits the Queen in Balmoral for an invitation to form her new UK government.

It comes after chairman of the Conservative Party’s 1922 Committee of backbench MPs, Sir Graham Brady, announced Ms Truss won 81,326 votes in a poll of Tory party members compared to Rishi Sunak’s share of 60,399 votes.

South West Surrey MP, Jeremy Hunt, and his East Hampshire counterpart, Damian Hinds, had both backed Mr Sunak.
