Alton Town Council believes that local government reorganisation may give it a greater role in the future.
Hampshire County Council and East Hampshire District Council will disappear in April 2028, with Alton becoming part of a Mid Hampshire unitary authority comprising most of the current East Hampshire, Winchester, Test Valley and New Forest council areas.
Alton town clerk Tom Horwood said: “Alton Town Council will seek opportunities to strengthen the voice of the communities of Alton and Holybourne in the new council area.
“I will discuss this with other town and parish councils and with the outgoing district and county councils.
“Restructure and change can be a distraction for public services and it will be important that councils put the needs of local communities first.”
