THE Royal Voluntary Service ran a pop-up shop in Lion and Lamb Yard last week to raise the profile of its Meals on Wheels service.

Meals on Wheels volunteers deliver around two million hot meals a year nationally to people who have difficulties with shopping or cooking.

The service has more than 200 volunteers in Waverley, including many based out of the Gostrey Centre in Farnham, and thousands more across the UK.

Its pop up shop opened in the Surrey and Hants News office and opened daily from 10am to 4pm.

As well as the chance to chat with volunteers over a cup of coffee and cake, the shop also boasts bric-a-brac and book sales in aid of the Royal Voluntary Service.

Helen Talbot, Meals on Wheels service manager, said she hoped the pop-up would raise awareness of the service for people who could take advantage of it or who want to volunteer.

She also thanked Waitrose for donating food and Sainsbury’s for donating a voucher to their cause.
