POPPY Appeal collectors will be at Sainsbury’s in Alton until next Friday, November 6, raising funds for the Royal British Legion.

Debby Bridger, charity and community co-ordinator for the store, said: “We are always happy to have the Poppy Appeal collectors in the store as we know that our customers and colleagues really want to help with the fantastic work the British Legion does”

A Royal British Legion collection held recently at the store in support of a bike ride appeal raised more than £900, “demonstrating just how much the work of the Legion is appreciated,” she said.

For the first time, online customers will also have the opportunity to make a donation to the British Legion and will receive a stick-on paper poppy when they place orders, up until November 11.

Last year, customers and colleagues at Alton helped raise more than £4,000 during the Poppy Appeal.

After Armistice Day (November 11), customers can recycle their poppies at the store using a special collection point which will be available until November 24.
