THE highly popular Tilford Environmental Playscheme is running again this summer.
The scheme opened its doors on Monday, and will run for two weeks at the Tilford institute opposite the village’s picturesque cricket green.
Run by a team of experienced playworkers and organised by local mums, the not-for-profit playscheme aims to provide a fun, safe and stimulating experience for children with forest and wildlife adventures, visiting specialists, sports activities and science and craft sessions.
It runs from 9am to 5pm weekdays and is open to children ages five to 10 years old and can accommodate up to 35 children on each of the 10 days that it runs.
The team is pleased to be bringing back some established favourites such as ‘forest fun days’ with Surrey Wildlife Trust and ranger Zoe, where the children will be building dens and making nettle soup.
They will also be exploring ‘mad science’ with the team from Sublime Science shooting stomp rockets into the garden, and will be making ‘musical mayhem’ unleashing their inner rock stars with the Rock & Pop Foundation.
New activities this year include a ‘set sail’ junk modelling challenge ending with some poolside Olympic games, a ‘detective day’ where ‘spies’ need to solve the mystery of the missing bear as well as entering a world of pure imagination on ‘golden ticket day’.
“We could not run the scheme without the generosity of our donors,” said committee member Rowenna Wood.
“Special thanks go this year to the Lions and Tilford Parochial charity. Thanks also goes to the wonderful All Saints Church of England Infant School for their lovely playing field.”
