THERE will be children’s voices shouting “look behind you” and “watch out for the crocodile” at Farnham library on Saturday, July 23, as Professor Dill and his Punch and Judy show make their long-awaited return.

The free show will begin at 11am, organised by The Friends of Farnham Library to promote the library’s summer reading scheme. This year, the theme is The Big Friendly Read to mark Roald Dahl’s centenary.

Children who read six books over the summer holiday will not only increase their reading skills but earn a medal and certificate as well.

While Professor Dill sets up his booth, the much-loved Granny Goldilocks will tell the children stories from 10.30am.

“This whole event is entirely free,” said Claire East, chairman of the Friends. “Our committee has raised £3,000 during the past four years which has enabled us to pay for the Punch and Judy show and help fund our children’s entertainments too.”

There Friends of Farnham Library will also present a Monet art workshop on Thursday, August 18’ at 10 am and 2pm where children can paint a water lilies canvas to take home.

There will be French music, pastries and a little conversation. Tickets are already on sale at the library and there are only 12 places available at each session so early booking is essential.
