HOOK Tandoori once again received national recognition for its work, after being nominated for an award at the British Curry Awards.

Despite not claiming the award for Best of South East at the awards ceremony held on Monday last week, the nomination was another jewel in the crown for one of Hook’s best-loved eateries.

The 12th annual awards held at Battersea Evolution in London were star-studded, and saw 13 restaurants pick up honours at the ceremony hosted by comedian Alistair McGowan.

Other famous faces making an appearance on the night included world-renowned chef Heston Blumenthal, TV personality Saira Khan, Great British Bake Off 2014 semi-finalist Chetna Makan and lively The Apprentice candidate Karthik Nagesan.

Despite the glitz, glamour and celebrations of some of the nation’s best curry houses, it also shone the light on how many struggle to even keep their businesses afloat.

It was highlighted how industry challenges such as the chef shortage, which an estimated 90 per cent of curry restaurants face, cause an average of two curry restaurant closures each week.

This year’s awards were in association with kukd.com, with all nominations for awards submitted by members of the public, showing just how popular the Hook curry house has become.

A spokesperson from Hook Tandoori said: “We want to thank all of our well-wishers, customers, colleagues and everybody who has continued to support us for a very long time.

“To everyone who has come into the restaurant and enjoyed the food - a big thank you.”
