THE majority of post offices in the area have won a reprieve from closure, although it is not clear yet whether Haslemere and Lion Green are safe.  Most post offices across South West Surrey received a letter in the last fortnight stating that, subject to local consultation, they would not be forced to close. However, not all are celebrating as four branches – including the two in Haslemere – have yet to receive their letter, which was due on December 27. Haslemere MP Jeremy Hunt has welcomed the news that most of the area's post offices are no longer facing closure under Post Office Ltd's Network Change Programme. Mr Hunt has written to Post Office Ltd calling for them to send him a definitive list of which post offices are to stay and which are to be closed and expressing his concern that the "subject to consultation" clause means that even saved post offices cannot rest easy. He said: "This is good news for our village post offices, although disappointing that yet another sub-post office in Farnham is to close. "Once again local campaigning has made a difference, along hopefully with my meeting with Post Office Minister Pat McFadden. "What we need now is a clear statement from Post Office Ltd that our local post offices are off the hit list for good and have not just won a short reprieve.  "They also need to end the uncertainty still hanging over the heads of post offices – particularly in Haslemere – that have not yet heard about their future." Passfield Post Office has been informed of its closure on February 13. Most others in the area facing closure have been told this will be consulted upon in the coming weeks. l The list of post offices being kept open in the area 'subject to consultation' is: Hindhead Post Office, 6 Royal Parade, Tilford Rd, Hindhead; Beacon Hill Post Office, Beacon Hill Road; Chiddingfold Post Office; Hambledon Post Office; Rushmoor Post Office; Milford Post Office, Portsmouth Road, Milford; Simrans, 20 Farncombe Street, Godalming; Weybourne Post Office, 12 Weybourne Rd, Farnham; Rowledge Sub Post Office, 4 The Square, Rowledge; Frensham Shop and Post Office, Shortfield, Frensham and Tilford Post Office.
