ORGANISED gangs of thieves seem to be targeting Farnham postmen, with at least four mail bags stolen in the last two weeks.
Royal Mail has confirmed that three bags containing approximately 700 items were stolen last Monday and that more mail was taken this week.
A spokesman said: "We believe this to be the work of an organised gang of criminals who are deliberately targeting our customers' mail. We are continuing to liaise with the police and our internal investigations department is also involved.
"We are also in the process of reviewing our security procedures. To date, none of the post has been recovered."
The most recent theft was reported by an angry Folly Hill resident on Monday.
He claimed that a bag of post was stolen from a collection box outside Folly Hill Post Office which, he claimed, is never kept locked.
It has been confirmed that the box, although used by postmen to leave their bags, is not an official Royal mail pouch box, but is owned and used by Folly Hill Post Office to keep newspapers in.
The resident whose post was stolen said: "It had my airline tickets, my prescription in it and various other things.
"The airline tickets were to Boston and I cannot get a refund because they were concessional trips for length of service I did with the airline.
"Royal Mail say it should have come registered. When I complained they said that the maximum compensation I can get is £21, which is ridiculous. Those tickets are worth £2,100."
The incidents have come following a spate of thefts of postman's pouches in recent weeks.
Two pouches were stolen on Wednesday, August 4, in Shortheath Road, and a similar incident was recorded a month previously.
Royal Mail added: "We apologise to any customers who have been affected by this.
"Unfortunately it is not possible to track specific items unless they have been sent by special delivery; however, anyone with concerns is advised to contact our customer services department on 08457 740740."
