THE South Downs Campaign (SDC) has launched its final big push for a national park.

A postcard campaign was launched this week highlighting the four key areas that the campaigners would like to see included within the proposed boundary.

It features The Chalk Hills, The Western Weald, Ditchling, and Lewes.

Petersfield is part of the Western Weald, along with other villages along the A3 corridor, including Liss, Buriton, Sheet, Steep, and Hawkley.

Nearly 250,000 postcards have been printed which the SDC is distributing locally, regionally and nationally. They are urging people to send them to the Government to demonstrate the strong public support for a South Downs National Park.

The postcard, laid out in the style of a holiday postcard, depicts the four areas it hopes to be included on the front. The back of the card contains a simple message for Secretary of State Hilary Benn urging him to confirm the national park boundary at the earliest possible opportunity.

The MP is due to receive the inspector's report from the reopened public inquiry by the end of this week, with a decision now expected by "early summer".

SDC chairman Robin Crane said: "After all this time, we hope that we are finally getting close to the end of the process and that this will be our last big push for the national park.

"We hope that people will be inspired by the postcard and send it off to the Government today. Now that the inspector's report has been submitted, the Government needs to make a decision without further delay.

"This postcard should send a timely reminder to the Government that a wider national park, including the Western Weald, Ditchling and Lewes, is popular and what people originally signed up to all those years ago."
