POTHOLE misery looks set to drive Surrey motorists mad for years to come due to a funding shortfall. The county council has warned Department of Transport funding is still £60m short of the £132m needed to maintain Surrey roads for the next five years. Surrey's five-year Operation Horizon was launched in April 2013 to tackle the countywide pothole problem. In July 2013, £8m was invested in improving 12per cent of the local road network in Woking. In its first year, Operation Horizon has resurfaced 81 miles of Surrey roads. Other major schemes completed so far include resurfacing Reigate town centre and overhauling up to four-mile stretches up through Godalming, Oxted and Guildford.
