BOURNE Bowls Club has once again held its annual Powder Puff day, raising £600 for local hospice care charity Phyllis Tuckwell.

The Powder Puff day was held in August and saw ladies from bowls clubs across Surrey, Hampshire and West Sussex travel to Bourne Bowls Club to compete in a variety of bowling competitions, including the ‘spoon drive’, which was won by Wendy Edwards of Frensham Bowls Club, and the ‘ladybird’, usually named the ‘spider’, which was won by Margaret Hutchinson of Petersfield Bowls Club.

The coveted Powder Puff itself was won by Marion Corbett of Wittering Bowls Club. As well as the bowling, the ladies all enjoyed fruit punch at half time and finished the day with a cream tea.

Raffle tickets were also on sale on the day, with over 60 prizes on offer, and a Champagne raffle with a prize of a bottle of Champagne and two Champagne flutes was won by Dave Sheppard of the Bourne Bowls Club.

On Saturday, August 26, members of the Bourne Bowls Club presented Phyllis Tuckwell’s community fundraiser Leanne Magee with a cheque for £600, which will go towards supporting vital end of life care.

Every day it supports over 250 patients, relatives and carers - in their own homes, at the hospice in Farnham and at the Beacon Centre in Guildford – but as the NHS/Government only covers 20 per cent of its costs, it has to raise over £20,000 a day to be able to do this.

“We would like to thank everyone at Bourne Bowls Club and all of the ladies who travelled to Farnham to take part in this fundraising event,” said Leanne Magee. “Six hundred pounds could pay for nearly a week’s worth of physiotherapy sessions from one of our highly qualified physiotherapists, whose expert support and advice can help patients to live their lives as fully as possible as their illness progresses.”

“We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Powder Puff day, and all of those who donated raffle prizes,” said Shirley Tilley, captain of the Bourne Bowls Club.

“We are so pleased to have raised such a great amount for Phyllis Tuckwell hospice care, a truly vital local charity.”
