BEING cast in bronze can be a strenuous business, even involving weight training, as Whitehill artist Alison McFadden found out when she had one side of her body set in a plaster cast to turn it into a work of art.

Alison began some extra body building after being awarded the Ingot Prize by the London Bronze Casting company for submitting a piece illustrating her idea of constructing different parts of her body to show physicality and strength.

It was a well-chosen subject as Alison keeps fit with gymnastics, ballet, karate and boxing.

Pretty, slim and blonde, Alison, as well as producing sculptures, has completed several dramatic contemporary pairings - one inspired by gym rings in different colours on a large white canvas.

Winning the Ingot Prize, which she shared with artists Harry Fletcher and Jimbo Adams, means her work will is now being displayed until July 28 at Bowman Sculpture on London’s Duke Street.
