AFTER one of the worst winters on record, Southern Electric Power Distribution (SEPD) is to spend £600,000 in and around Waverley to make its network "more resilient and robust". Almost 30,000 residents in Elstead, Runfold, Frensham, Churt and Tilford were unable to cook their Christmas dinner last December when heavy storms resulted in power cuts across the area. And following several heated public meetings and pressure from local authorities, the region's power distributor, SEPD, this week unveiled its action plan to prevent a repeat of last winter's blackouts. The details of its investment are yet to be announced, but SEPD confirmed trees and vegetation will be cleared away from power lines and ageing equipment will be upgraded and replaced.
