TENOVUS Cancer Care is offering free support for anyone affected by cancer in Surrey.
The charity says a diagnosis of cancer is devastating – not only for the patient, but for their family and friends too.
It is asking cancer patients and their loved ones to go along to ‘Sing with Us’ choir rehearsals at All Saints Church, Onslow Village in Guildford on Monday evenings, to discover the power of singing.
Tenovus Cancer Care started its first choir in 2010 and has carried out pioneering research that proved singing in a choir for just an hour is beneficial for cancer patients, boosting immune system activity while reducing their feelings of isolation, anxiety and pain.
Sing with Us choir leader Vicki Hodges told The Herald: “Singing with our choir is a fantastic way to meet new friends, feel uplifted and enjoy some time for yourself.
“I’d like to encourage anyone who is feeling a bit apprehensive or nervous to come along and give the choir a go; you’ll find a very warm welcome waiting for you and I know you’ll have a great time! If you’d like to try something new for 2017 this is the perfect time to join us.”
