MILLAND’S annual St Luke’s Church fete at the Recreation Ground attracted more than 60 worshippers to a morning outdoor service conducted by Reverend Trish Bancroft on Sunday, where victims of the London terror attack were remembered in prayers.
Blessed with brilliant sunshine, many more visitors came along to the afternoon event which featured a barbecue, tombola, children’s area, a bouncy castle, pony rides as well as many stalls including bric-a-brac and books plus a display by Liphook Model Railway Club.
Star of the fete was Mary Turton’s cake stall which raised more than £450 alone.
Proceeds will be shared between the two churches St Luke’s Linch and St Luke’s Milland.
Fete co-ordinator Mu Bullingham told The Herald: “We were very pleased with the turn-out this year, after it rained on the day for the last two years. Our biggest money earner is the ever popular raffle.
“We are still counting and hope to have raised a fair amount of money for the two churches. The outdoor service, where people sat on straw bales, was Rev Trish Bancroft’s idea and it was quite moving – especially after the terrible attack in central London the night before. Our prayers were for the victims and their families and a holy communion was also held.”
