GUILFORD Cathedral is to host a prayer vigil ahead of the Paris climate change talks

Bishop Andrew will lead Christians from across the Guildford Diocese in prayer for the success of the Paris talks at Guildford Cathedral on November 28 from 4pm.

The Paris summit is crucial, as negotiators from more than 190 nations will gather to discuss a new global agreement on climate change aimed at limiting greenhouse gas emissions from 2020 when current commitments run out.

Reverend Lesley Crawley who is organising the prayer vigil, said, “Please come and join the event at the cathedral, it is open to absolutely everyone. Bishop Andrew will lead us with prayers that are translated from the prayers in French that will be used in Notre Dame Cathedral. Also, around the cathedral will be prayer stations where you can pray quietly around a theme. The vigil will end with a blessing from the bishop at around 5pm.”

Bishop Andrew said: “The gathering of the nations at the Paris Summit presents a very real possibility that the seemingly inexorable rise in global temperatures might be slowed and even halted.

“Please pray for the success of the talks, and for your own response to this critical moment in global history, I’d especially recommend the special online advent calendar www.arocha.org.uk for practical suggestions.”
