A VICTORIAN prefabricated chapel at the Rural Life Centre in Tilford provided an unusual venue for the traditional harvest festival.

The Eashing Chapel was constructed in 1857 by a small group of residents alienated by the “ritualistic practices” of the established church.

Providing just 20 seats, the tiny chapel was used as a place of worship for almost a century as well as Sunday school for as many as 40 children.

After the Second World War, the chapel gradually fell into disrepair until it was relocated from Eashing to the Rural Life Centre in 1994.

The Eashing Chapel took centre stage at the museum’s Harvest Home festival - hosting a special service to mark the end of the farming year.
