FEAR that John Prescott's plan to cram 860,000 more homes into the South East will open the floodgates for local developers has triggered a warning for extreme vigilance.

The call, by chairman of East Hampshire District Council's NW area community committee, Jerry Janes, is aimed particularly at those people living in rural areas, where developers already own the option on vast tracts of land.
