CHILDREN are getting a first-class education at primary schools around Petersfield, according to a national study.

But more schools are struggling to make the grade at Key Stage 2, while others could do better at teaching the basics.

The release of the 2011 Key Stage 2 (KS2) results by the Department of Education have proved a mixed bag for the district's primary schools.

The results for English and maths were above the national average at most Petersfield-area schools, with Buriton and Harting finishing top of the class.
