FEARS that improvements to Chalet Hill and Bordon High Street have been delayed were challenged this week, as councillors and town leaders vowed to continue their hard work to improve the town. Following last week's announcement that the regeneration of the High Street will be undertaken with the Whitehill-Bordon Opportunity, some councillors and residents were concerned that work would be greatly delayed. However, as plans are drawn up to improve Lynton Road and traffic congestion, town leaders are confident that plenty will be done in the interim time. Town improvements manager Gerry Thorn said: "We're already working on the cleanup of the area. The units on the High Street that have been empty for 10 years have been refitted and all but one is ready. "We're now looking to fill these shops with businesses that the people of Bordon are crying out for. The town is being cleaned up and work is constantly going on in the area." County councillor Adam Carew said: "All the local members on the Whitehill-Bordon Opportunity Executive expressed concern that this whole area needs to be prioritised for urgent redevelopment. "As EHDC was unable to appoint a master planner last year, it seems sensible to hang on for a few more months until one is in place and plans drawn up so we can look at the town as a whole rather than one area in isolation." Ian Dowdle has proposed that the town council and town partnership draw up plans for improvements to be made in the meantime and bring them back to the next executive group meeting.
